Stuff You Should Bring
- Camping Gear:
- warm sleeping bag
- sleeping pad
- flashlight
- dish set (1 bowl, 1 spoon/fork, 1 cup)
- 3 garbage bags
- water bottles (at least 2)
- matches (in a ziplock)
- a tent (if you want one; band together to conserve costs. I have enough tarps for everyone.
- a tarp( if you so desire)
- a campstove (band together to save money, rent together. One stove for three people works out pretty well)
- Food:
-
2 day / 1 night hike: Plan meals for one breakfast, two lunches, one dinner, one dessert (if you want), snacks, and GO juice (some superconcentrated sugary drink to make up in your waterbottle if you want). See the food flier for more info, and do not forget to bring iodine tablets if you don’t have an H2O purifier. These might be available at Longs, and definitely at the outdoor store on River st.
- Clothing:
- As far as clothing goes, the more fleece and waterproof, the better, and remember to think in layers. It could be warm or cold, raining or nice, so prepare for both extremes with as few items as possible.
- a pair of comfortable pants or shorts
- 2 pairs socks, preferrably not cotton - woolish hiking socks and maybe some sock liners really help preventing blisters
- a long sleeved shirt
- a short sleeved shirt
- raingear (light waterproof jacket)
- sweater of some sort
- beanie
- jacket
- gloves
- underwear
- warm PJs
- hiking boots (strongly recommended but you can make it in sneaks)
- camp shoes
- Toiletries
- whatever you need, and don’t forget sunscreen and bug repellent that has deet in it. Think in small bottles, especially because our trips are so short. Really, it is overnight. I normally take floss, toothpaste, toothbrush and antiperspirant and that’s it.
- Other stuff:
- first aid kit ( good idea - bring a bee kit if you’re allergic, five band aids, some advil, an all purpose cold pill, maybe an ace bandage, and blister supplies (medical tape, moleskin) all in a waterproof bag. It should be very light)
- Etcetera
- Sunglasses
- Wide brimmed hat
- Camera
- Journal or book
- bandanas
- deck of cards
- walking stick if you have one
