What We Do: We plan trips, then we go on them.
Other Stuff We Do: We also take day hikes, take group runs once a week in the woods, teach workshops, fundraise to alleviate trip costs (mainly gas and permits), hold social events, and most importantly, have too much fun to handle. Where: Meetings are once a week, Wednesday nights at 9pm. Winter and spring quarters, meetings are held at the OPERS East field house conference room. Trips and day hikes go all over. In order to go on trips, attendance at most meetings is encouraged, and attendance at the pre-trip meeting is required. Some sort of contribution to the group is also a good idea, so that we're all working together to make the club as fantastic as possible. See ... for more details. When: Trip and event dates are scheduled during meetings and vary from quarter to quarter. Every quarter includes two trips, one easy/beginner level, one harder/advanced (at times pretty gnarly). Winter quarter, the easier trip was to Point Reyes and the harder trip was to Death Valley, as well as a day hike to Butano St. park. Check out the trip links to get more info on trips. Why: If you have never been backpacking, it is one of the most radical experiences humanity has to enjoy. It is a great way to get in shape, get to know new people, explore breathtakingly beautiful places, learn about the wilderness (and yourself), have adventures, learn outdoors skills, see cool wildlife, and take a break from the whole campus-school thing. If you have gone backpacking before, you already know. |
